Online Safeguarding Advice for Parents of KS2 Children

Parents of KS2 Children

At Pulse CSI, we’re passionate about sharing good practices, especially in online e-Safety and keeping children safe online.

The digital age is here to stay and presents so many challenges for us as Parents / Carers and also directly for children who are constantly using these digital devices.

These blog posts aim to help parents and carers keep their children safe on social media platforms and while gaming online. This particular post is focused on parents of Key-stage 2 Primary School children, especially those transitioning from Year 6 to Year 7.

We’ve been CEOP Education Ambassadors for over 15 years and have delivered our online e-safety programs to thousands of primary schools across the UK, educating and keeping the children to stay safe online.

Having, recently watched a media production by The Lincolnshire Children’s Partnership (LSCP) and I wanted to share it with you. It’s very useful, especially if you’re preparing to send your Primary School child to Senior School in the new academic year.

Keeping Children Safe Online

I would highly recommend this video on YouTube produced by The LSCP: https://youtu.be/HKaPeLoEdec. I’ve been delivering online content in primary schools for many years, and I found this particularly useful in today’s digital world. So many questions, here are just an example;

PARENT : “How old do you have to be to own a “Smart” phone ?” “What age would you recommend?”

PARENT : “All my child’s friends are on Social Media and they are not 13 years old, but because of peer pressure, I have let them sign up to some Social Media platforms”

PARENT : “How do I set up “Parental Controls” to keep my children safe and limit their time on different digital devices?

So many topics discussed and no ‘one word’ answers, if you are getting stressed by the amount of content out there and don’t know what is best for your child, then this is definitely worth an hour of your time, you should find it invaluable.

CEOP EDUCATION

For additional resources, we would also recommend a visit online to : CEOP Education (https://www.ceopeducation.co.uk/) which offers many resources for parents and teachers alike.

INTERNET MATTERS

Internet Matters (https://www.internetmatters.org/) is also an excellent website that will assist you as a parent or carer in this digital age and has a great deal of resources and useful articles regarding staying safe online.

If you found this blog useful, please share with other Parents / Carers / Teachers ……………..
